Minutes of the OVH Club Meeting

May 17, 2004


Ruth / KU4WH called meeting to order at 2000 Eastern time.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, all presented stated their names and call signs. There were 25 OVH members and four guests present.

SCHOLARSHIP: Jim / W4JTP. The winners of OVH’s 2004 scholarship were Ben Gelb / KF4KJQ of Thomas Jefferson HS for science and technology and Ashil Farahmand of Osbourn HS. The awards were for $1,000 each. OVH awards scholarships annually to high-achieving local high school seniors who intend to study electronics, computer science, or a related field in college. Congratulations Ben and Asheel.


MINUTES - The minutes from the April 2004 OVH meeting were approved with no corrections.

TREASUERER’S REPORT - The Treasurer’s report was presented by Bill / N4WJN. The report was approved.


HAMFEST - David / KG4GIY: Things are where they should be at this point in time. Mount Vernon ARC will administer the exam session.

ARES - David / KG4GIY: Thanks to all who helped with the Dulles drill. We had participation from throughout northern Virginia. The drill was a success, and we learned about things that need to be fixed. We have a new quick reference card on the PWC ARES website that can be downloaded. NCAC Institute is this Saturday at 8:30 in PG County. Several topics will be covered including Skywarn Basic.

MEMBERSHIP - John / WA1STU: Charles R. Watts / W4XP was read in.


George / K4GVT is still looking for ideas on a new logo.

Bill / N4WJN noted that in the past we have donated to QSL.net and QST.net. OVH did not donate last year, and asked if we should donate as the OVH E-mail reflector is still run through this sight. A motion carried unanimously to donate $100 to the organization.

David / KG4GIY made a motion was made make our 2004 scholarship winners members of OVH for a year and passed unanimously. Ben Gelb / KF4KJQ filled out an application and will be voted on at the June 2004 meeting as per OVH bylaws. Ashil Farahmand (no call) will be contacted to encourage him to fill out an application.

Thirty one dollars was collected for the 50/50 drawing. John / KG4NXT won the drawing and collected $16. The Club collected $15.

The meeting adjourned at 2105 Eastern time.
