Minutes of the OVH Meeting

August 16, 2004


Ruth / KU4WH called meeting to order at 2001 Eastern time.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, all presented stated their names and call signs. There were 19 OVH members and one guest present.


MINUTES - The minutes of the July 2004 OVH meeting were approved with no corrections.

TREASUERER’S REPORT - The Treasurer’s report was presented by Bill / N4WJN.


REPEATERS – Butch / W4HJL: The repeaters are working very well. The PL function of the 2-meter machine will be fixed shortly.

EDUCATION – Ruth / KU4WH: We are looking for volunteers to teach amateur radio courses for the Club, beginning with a course for potential Technicians this Fall. We will send an e-mail to the OVH e-mail list to solicit volunteers.

MEMBERSHIP – John / WA1STU: Enrique Paz / KG6FHG and Eugene Reznick / K3PXR were read into the minutes for membership at the July 2004 OVH meeting, and were voted into the Club by a unanimous vote at the August 2004 meeting. Welcome to the Ole’ Virginia Hams, Eurique and Eugene.

FAR – Ruth / KU4WH: FARFEST will take place on September 11 and 12 this year. David / KG4GIY asks us to write articles for AutoCall.

ARES - David / KG4GIY: The mini marathon will take place this Saturday, and we need to be there by 7:00 a.m. On September 11, Prince William County will have an open house at the County Headquarters. We need more volunteers for the Marine Corps Marathon, which is on October 31. The NCAC Institute will take place before the Marine Corps Marathon. We are trying to get ham gear in place at the various Prince William County emergency and shelter locations.

HOMEPAGE/PACKET – Bill / N4WJN: Bill asks us to keep our packet frequencies active.

JOTA – Paul / N2PJ: Paul will be coordinating JOTA this year. It will be held at the Urbana Swim Club on Saturday, October 16. We will set up the antennas the previous Friday, and get started at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Scouts will arrive beginning at 9:00 a.m. Radio operators are needed.



BPL – Ruth / KU4WH: Ed Hare is setting up a BPL reflector to help facilitate communication on BPL. Bob Zaepfel / K4HJF is heading up OVH’s BPL efforts. We had a brief discussion about various BPL issues.

50/50: We collected $30 for the 50/50 drawing. John / KG4NXT won the drawing. John collected $15 and the Club collected $15.

John / KG4NXT: John and Theresa / KG4TVM graciously offered to host an OVH holiday party at their house. More details will be forthcoming. Thank you John and Theresa.

Ken / WB4ZOH: Ken has a 486 computer that would make a good packet station. If you are interested, please contact Ken.
