Minutes of the OVH Meeting
September 20, 2004
Ruth / KU4WH called meeting to order at 2002 Eastern time.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, all presented stated their names and call signs. There were 24 OVH members present.
MINUTES - The minutes of the August 2004 OVH meeting were approved with no corrections.
TREASUERER’S REPORT - The Treasurer’s report was presented by Bill / N4WJN.
REPEATERS – Butch / W4HJL: The repeaters are working very well. Butch and other members of the Repeater Committee just completed some routine maintenance on the repeaters.
FAR – Ruth / KU4WH: FARFEST went well, and AutoCall can always use articles.
WEEKLY OVH NETS – Ruth / KU4WH: The weekly nets are going well.
ARES – Brian / WC4J: Brian and Ruth / KU4WH thanked everyone who helped at the mini-triathlon. The annual Nokesville Bike Ride is this Saturday, September 25. The Manassas Holiday Parade will take place in December. There will also be a Skywarn event in December. More information will be forthcoming.
HOMEPAGE/PACKET – Bill / N4WJN: Some changes are being made to the webpage. The black background will be changed. A "month-at-a-glace calendar" has been added. Bill asks that if we have information that is relevant for the calendar that we tell Bill about it. Everything is working with packet. The packet call sign will change, and more information will be forthcoming regarding the change in the call sign.
JOTA – Ruth / KU4WH: JOTA takes place on Saturday, October 16 at the Urbana Swim Club. The scouts arrive at 9:00 a.m., and we need to be there at 8:00 a.m. Setup occurs on Friday, October 15, and volunteers are needed for both days.
SUNSHINE – Steve / N4OGR: The Wikfors, who have hosted the bake sale at the annual OVH Hamfest, have moved out of the area. Steve will send a card to the Wikfors to thank them for their help over the last several years.
EDUCATION – Brian / WC4J: Brian will be coordinating an upcoming technician class. More information will be forthcoming.
Ruth / KU4WH noted that we received a request from the Red Cross to donate for relief efforts for the victims of the hurricanes in Florida. After some informal discussion, we decided not to donate as a Club. Donations on an individual basis can be made through www.redcross.org.
BPL – Butch / W4HJL: Bob / K4HJF is hooked up with BPL, and we are doing some testing. We had a general discussion regarding BPL issues.
Theresa / KG4TVM announced that John / KG4NXT and Theresa will be hosting a holiday party at their home on Saturday, December 18, 2004. This will be a family event, and please bring a dish. Thank you John and Theresa for your hospitality.
George / K4GVT gave a very brief presentation on an electronic gadget that he recently acquired. These are basically modems, and would be useful for creating a network. Contact George for more information.
50/50: We collected $34 for the 50/50 drawing. George / K4GVT won, and graciously donated his share ($17) back to the Club. Thank you George for your contribution.
