Minutes of the OVH Club Meeting
Dec. 15, 2003
The meeting was called to order by President Ruth Frock / KU4WH at 2000 Eastern time.
Following the Pledge of Allegience, all present stated their names and callsigns. There were 19 members present.
David Lane / KG4GIY gave a talk on the National Traffic System (NTS) in emergencies. The basic purpose of the NTS is to move large amounts of information around the nation and the world in an efficient manner. The basic "tool" for this activity is the "radiogram." Anyone can download the Radiogram from the ARRL website. There are other forms related to the NTS. David gave us a primer on how to fill out the radiogram. Thank you David for your presentation on the NTS.
MINUTES: – The minutes of the November 2003 OVH meeting were approved with minor corrections.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Ruth / KU4WH – Ruth read both the monthly and year-end reports, and the reports were approved.
REPEATERS: Art / W1CRO – Some repairs and maintenance have been done to the repeaters recently, and all of the repeaters are working well.
HAMFEST: Ruth / KU4WH – Jack has moved. The Hamfest Committee needs to meet. Any interested people please volunteer for the committee.
MEMBERSHIP: Mary Lu / KB4EFP - A family named Steven / KM4US, Julia / N4URG and Christopher / KI4AZN Moody was read in at the November 2003 OVH meeting, and were voted in unanimously at the December 2003 OVH meeting. Welcome to the Ole’ Virginia Hams Steven, Julia and Christopher.
FAR: Ruth / KU4WH – Autocall may be published next year as a quartlety publication, beginning with the February issue. Fallfest with be September 11 and 12 at the Howard County Fairgrounds. They need folks to volunteer to help with Autocall.
WEEKLY NET: Ruth / KU4WH – All is going well with the net.
ARES: David / KG4GIY – Radio shack is clearing out some of their headsets with boom mikes. The price is quite good. There will be a drill at Dulles Airport in May. This is a full drill with all hospitals in the area participating. Note that you may have to have a background check to get into certain facilities. Please take care of that beforehand to take part in these drills.
EMERGENCY COORDINATOR: Brian / N8FK – Skywarn thanks us for use of our beam.
JOTA: Ruth / KU4WH – John / KG4NXT was thanked by Thomas Jefferson H.S. for Science and Technology.
Steve / N4OGR made a motion that the OVH donate $25 to the American Heart Association in the name of Milt’s (N4SN’s) wife. The motion passed.
The OVH holiday party is this Saturday, December 20.. Please bring something.
George / KE2AM showed some potential designs for a new club logo and made a motion that we vote on a new logo. The motion passed.
Art / W1CRO made a motion to have an official logo that would be used as an official corporate logo "sans the pig." This official logo would be used in presenting the Club to public officials and others in our official business. This motion does not preclude having unofficial logos that would be used among ourselves and for non-official business. The motion passed.
John Zorger / WA1STU and Charlie Dale / WA4YGI were elected as new directors. Thank you John and Charlie for agreeing to be Directors.
John / KG4NXT won the 50/50 raffle. $22 was collected, $11 going to John and $11 going to the Club.
The meeting adjourned at 2120 Eastern time.
