Presidents Letter May 2017

PRESIDENT’S LETTER:

Hello to all and I hope this message finds you all healthy and well. It has been a roller-coaster for weather so far.  Now it is time to get active and prepare for an exciting and prosperous year. Let the OVH activities begin!!

First of all, the May 15th meeting will be the last one at the Manassas City Public Works Building for about a year.  They will be using the space to do computer training for some of the city employees. We are hoping to be back as it is a great place to hold meetings. Also on the down side, OVH did not take part in the 2017 Manassas Air Show. A number of factors came into play that did not bode well for us. On the upside, the weather didn’t cooperate that much. All in all, I think it was all a wash… (no pun intended)

Now it is time to gear up for Hamfest!! This is our signature event that OVH is known for. This event has been going on 43 years and continues on. This is the time for ALL of OVH members to get involved with your club!! There are positions that just may be the perfect spot.  These range from the club table to the front gate. We are also looking for volunteers to assist with the loading and unloading of vendor vehicles. This is due to the fairgrounds not allowing vehicles in the building. To sign up, contact Terry KC4DV and see what you can do for him!!

Our second big event is Field Day!! The perfect opportunity to get out and be radio active (thanks Mark). What better way than to get on the air and communicate. After all, isn’t that what we do?? For all of the new members and those thinking about joining, this would be the time to see in action HF, VHF/UHF and Digital modes in action. There is so much to explore, the opportunities endless. Hope to see you there.

Before Paul gets mad at me because I am running a little late, I hope everyone had a chance to watch the YouTube video from RSGB that Stu W4PR shared.  [https://youtu.be/SH9OtgAcV6g] If you haven’t done so yet, please do.
