Presidents Letter: What a month it has been since our last club meeting! The OVH’s participation at the Manassas Airshow May 5th went extremely well. The weather was almost perfect for an airshow – not too hot, light winds and a very high overcast; the forecast rains held off until after the Airshow was over. Overall attendance estimates for the Airshow were around 10,000. It was a great opportunity to get our club out into the public view and hopefully interest more folks people in becoming hams. A bunch of the club’s new “how to contact us” business cards were taken. Thanks to the OVH volunteers for putting it all together and for the long hours they put in to make it successful. Check out the article on the Manassas AirShow later in this newsletter and on the club web… Read more »

Presidents Letter: Greetings one and all, I hope everyone is getting into the holiday season in their own way. For those who missed the holiday party, we had a lot of fun. We had a good turnout. First of all, I want to say thanks to Theresa, KG4TVM, for once again putting on a great event. The food was great and the company even better. Thanks to Sgt Tucker Renckert and Lance Corporal Sydney Ally coming on behalf of Toys-For-Tots. Thank you for your service. Just to stop all of the rumors, yes it is true that Pinkie the Pig does exists. From random sighting to appearing in the Manassas parade, it became clear that the myth is a reality. To reinforce this, Pinkie surprised us at the party. What a real ham bone. She looked like she had a… Read more »

Presidents Letter: Welcome to September, it has been a busy time since our last club meeting. From The Marine Corp Triathlon/12K, to the upcoming Freedom Center Tri-It-Now “THE 14.06”. The Solar Eclipse that had all of us watching or looking at. Let us not forget about Butch and his surgery. That is just to name a few. There are others that I have not mentioned. While I am on the subject of activities, let us not forget that this is National Preparedness Month. Are you ready in case something should happen?? If you would like to volunteer, there are local organizations that could use you such as CERT and ARES. These are just a couple of ways that you can make a difference to your community. As we have recently witnessed, the powerful force of Mother Nature is not to… Read more »

PRESIDENTS LETTER: I hope that everyone is surviving the summer heat… Well, we have gone through another successful Field Day. At least the weather cooperated with us this year. I am looking forward to hear all of the scores. I want to thank all who took part in this fun event, it was great to see the folks who only make it to a couple of events a year. As a surprise, Terry (WA5NTI) made an appearance, even though it was a short one, it was good to see him. As always, hats off to Phil, with another awesome spread of delicious food!! And then there was the epiphany that Byron had……. Even though the Fourth of July evening was rainy, many places still had firework to celebrate this wonderful country of ours. PRESIDENTS LETTER: Now that the 43rd Annual Hamfest is in the books, time to start planning for next year. First though, I would like to commend Terry (KC4DV) and the committee on another great hamfest.  As you may know, Terry has decided to pass the baton over to Don WA2SWX for next year.  I am sure that the OVH can do attitude will continue. Due to the fairgrounds modifying their policy on vehicles in the building, OVH had to change the way vendors set up. For the first time,  OVH assisted with the unloading and loading of vehicles. This surprised all of the vendors. We had a lot of complements on this action. Most everyone said that we are one of only a very few to do this. This could have only been accomplished by a group of committed club… Read more »
