DESCRIPTION:ARRL Field Day is the single most popular on-the-air event held annually in the US and Canada.  in the fourth weekend of June of each year\, more than 35\,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs\, groups or simply with friends tooperate from remote locations. \nField Day is a picnic\, a campout\, practice for emergencies\, an informal contest\nand\, most of all\, FUN! \nIt is a time where many aspects of Amateur Radio come together to highlight our many roles. While some will treat it as a contest\, other groups use the opportunity to practice their emergency response capabilities. It is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Amateur Radio to the organizations that Amateur Radio might serve in an emergency\, as well as the general public. For many clubs\, ARRL Field Day is one of the highlights of their annual calendar. \nThe contest part is simply to contact as many other stations as possible and to learn to operate our radio gear in abnormal situations and less than optimal conditions.

DESCRIPTION:Its 2018 and the Ole Virginia Hams want to help you start the New Year off right by helping you  join an exiting hobby and technology venue by helping you both learn and test for your own Amateur Radio Technician Class License.\n\nThe W4OVH club will continue our offering of free Technician Class license preparation courses starting on January 29th at 7PM. There will be a total of 8 weekly sessions of 1 hour each. \nThis year we are introducing new innovations to the course delivery. The course will be conducted by video teleconference so that you have the convenience of attending from your computer at home. \nWe have class availability for 9 students using this format. \nThe specific class schedule and dates will be added to this event calendar entry when finalized.
