Field Day 2026

The weather forecast predicted rain all day Saturday and Sunday. However, it did not rain on Saturday and we only got a few hours of rain on Sunday. However, Saturday was very cloudy that caused us to cancel the the balloon launch because the radio package would pick up cloud moisture.  With the clouds we did not put up solar panels.

We had a lot of OVH members turn out: Theresa, KG4TVM; Byron, AK4XR; George, K4GVT; Wayne, AG4ZZ; Gene, N4HFW; Jay NQ4T; John, KG4NXT;  Butch, W4HJL; Paul, W4ZB; Lillian, KK4WX;, Gil, KM4OZH; Mark, WA4KFZ; Scott, KR4BNF and Bruce, KN4GDX.

We had many guests this year and the most distinguished guest was George Stewart who is the new Gainesville supervisor. He also visited Heritage Hunt field day and posted pictures of both events on his Facebook page.

We were also visited by Mike, WA8AHZ, who is the ARRL section manager for Virginia. He led a discussion with those present on Sunday morning. We also had a nice visit from Dina Coppage who is the care taker for the Nokesville park. She gave us her phone number in case we had interactions with the park rangers, which we did not have this year.

As far as contacts, we had 277 CW contacts which were the work of  Wayne, AG4ZZ.  We had 305 digital contacts which were the work of John, KG4NXT; Byron, AK4XR; Mark, WA4KFZ and Scott, KR4BNF.

There were only 13 phone contacts, all Satellite, by George, K4GVT.

It had been years since we made Satellite contacts at Field day. George spent a lot of time getting his setup working and we appreciate it.

George has all the field day photos listed online at https://www.k4gvt.com/ovh/fieldday2026/index.html
