SUNSHINE CORNER – October 2023
Happy Birthday wishes to our club members celebrating this October month: Chris, KN4IJF; Ray, KM4EKR; Rob, KC4VDN; Phil, AC4PLl and Richard Eisenhart, No Call. Hope you all have wonderful birthdays with lots of candles!
Congratulations Corner: Kudos to Gil, KM4OZH, our National Competitor as a rover in ARRL’s September VHF Contest. Little birdie told me that he was running up to Pennsylvania and down to southern Virginia to collect multiplier grids. So, with OVH’s outpouring, he achieved a personal best claimed score of 11,319. WAHOO!!!!!!!
Help Needed: Volunteers in the VA/DC/MD area to assist with the “X-STEM NOVA” event on Friday, October 20, presented by the USA Science and Engineering Festival. The event is being held at the National Conference Center near Leesburg, VA. We’re short of volunteers, so if you’re willing and able, it would be terrific. About the event: this 1-day event is for middle and high school students designed to empower and inspire kids about careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Attendees will be inspired by presentations from leading STEM role models, participate in Q&A sessions, learn by doing in hands-on workshops, interact with students from all over the county, and have fun while learning about exciting career opportunities in STEM! More on the X-STEM NOVA itself is here: https://usasciencefestival.org/x-stem-nova-2023/

October OVH Meeting: If you want to know more about OVH, please attend one of our meetings that are held on the third Tuesday of the month. Our next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday 10-17-2023 at 7:30 PM at the Buckhall Volunteer Fire Department, 7190 Yates Ford Road, Manassas, VA 20111. You are welcome to attend without obligation. From the parking lot, you will see a wing wall projecting from the building with signage that reads “Training Room”. The single door to the room where we usually meet is at the left end of the wing wall on the corner of the building. If you are able to attend, we ask you to tell us a little about your amateur radio biography, but only if you are comfortable doing so. OVH is a friendly, welcoming club and we hope you will attend. Our meetings often start with a presentation on a radio-related topic and this may be my favorite part. Please contact Luther WA3FMO email@example.com with any questions or concerns.
TRI_IT_NOW: The “Season Wrap Up”, this Sunday, October 15, 2023 (Manassas, VA) will be the last one. See link: https://www.triitnow.com/index.htm and Andy Gamponia at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up as a volunteer spotter. Tri It Now events schedule should be on our W4OVH web site event calendar to show all Tri It Now mini triathlons and races and the calendar widget on the right side of our web site will show a link for our upcoming calendar events.
