Greetings All,
In February, we held our annual club officer elections during our monthly meeting. I’d like to thank everyone who braved the bad weather to participate. In a clean sweep, your entire officer cadre was reelected.
John, KG4NXT; Jeff, K9VEG; Gil, KM4OZH and I (Ken, KN4DD) were returned to our positions as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President, respectively,
Because of that bad weather, our featured speaker, Gordon, NQ4K, was not able to give his Virginia QSO party briefing. In his stead, John, KG4NXT was able to find us a video last minute. His video was “Parachuting into POTA”. While interesting, I don’t think many of our OVH members will be rushing out to try this one. The most common comment, and thus the lesson learned from this video, was to pre-arrange your contacts, instead of spinning around your dial looking for contacts while on your descent.
A big thank you to John for the video and we will be seeing Gordon again, later this spring.
Next, your annual dues, which are now $25, are due by March 31st. As you are all aware, the two major ways our club makes money is our Tailgate Party and our dues. Repeater maintenance expenses are always significant. If you have not yet paid, PayPal is preferred, but you could always bring a check to our next monthly meeting, (which will be March 18th) with the check made out to Ole Virginia Hams. Please get caught up before the end of March membership suspension dates occur.
After a very successful sophomore year, Field Day Chairwoman Cat (KM4PBD), returns again. This year, circumstance has your entire officer cadre involved with Cat in trying to solve an important new issue. Prince William County Parks & Recreation Department has told us “No more overnight stays” at the Nokesville Park, despite all of our previous years experiences. Various members of the OVH have been in meetings and we have been asked for business letters showing a relationship to county emergency preparedness, all to no avail. We are now trying to get a County Supervisor involved.
Your Officer Cadre will keep you in the loop with regard to a final disposition of this issue.
John, KG4NXT, has taken over as Tailgate Party Chairman from Don, WA2SWX, who is enjoying a well-deserved retirement in Ecuador. John has called for a planning session at Sam and Joe’s Pizza & Subs in Manassas on March 25th. As I said a few paragraphs back, this is our biggest moneymaker of the year, and we could use your help. If you are interested in helping, we would love to see you.
Our monthly breakfast returns this Saturday, March 15th at 8:00 AM. Pioneered by Byron, AK4XR, we get together every Saturday before our meetings at a table or two in the back of Yorkshire Restaurant for some good food and good conversation.

Jerry Stuckle, AI0K, of the NWS will give a presentation on SKYWARN at this meeting.
I am really looking forward to this one, and will probably be signing up for the SKYWARN basic class after this presentation.
And lastly, a reminder to check in to the OVH’s Thursday night VHF/UHF repeater net at 8 PM. The details for that are on the OVH’s web site: https://w4ovh.net
