It’s hot. It’s cold. It’s wet. It’s dry. Repeat. Often. Last winter’s schizophrenic weather just seems to go on and on. On the plus side, we certainly aren’t experiencing the drought the folks out west are experiencing.
I am proud to report that The Ole Virginia Hams has selected 2 STEM students for the 2022 Steve Frick Scholarship. Additionally, I am very pleased to announce that for the first time ever, we have two young women as our STEM student scholarship winners. These young people will be present @ the beginning of our May 17th meeting for the award presentation.
On May 8th, OVH supported our second Run, Bike, and Swim Mini Tri of 2022.
Officially called “The Tri It Now – Ladies Choice”, there were also a number of tweens spotted in the race. Proving perhaps, that it is never too early to develop personal fitness habits & a sense of community.
Big thanks again to Andy, KJ4MTP for organizing and coordinating the spotters that make up OVH’s communications support for this. Also volunteering was Greg, KM4CCG; Ken, KN4DD; Wayne, N4HCR; John, KG4NXT; David, KG4GIY; Al, KB4BHB & Lori, KC0EWN.
Of special note, this was the first Mini Tri for Lori, KC0EWN & Wayne, N4HCR. They did fine & we hope that they enjoyed the day enough to volunteer again.
Andy is also coordinating the OVH’s participation with communications support on September 10, 2022 for “Warrior Bike Ride.” If you haven’t volunteered yet, please contact Andy, KJ4MTP at andy@gamponia.com . It is a fun event and the volunteers get a coupon for a free meal after the race.

The month of June is always our busiest month of the year with two major club events:
- The Manassas Hamfest on Saturday, June 4th from 6:30 AM until 2:00 PM EDT.
- Then the ARRL/OVH Field Day event will take place on June 25-26 at the Pavilion at the Nokesville Community Park.
First up, Hamfest 2022 which will be 4 June @ 6:30 AM – 2:00 PM EDT.
Hamfest is the club’s signature event for the last 40 plus years. Because of the pandemic, this will be our first Hamfest in 2 years. I’m pleased to report that Dr. Bob Heil, will be our featured (remote) speaker.

If you are new to The Hobby, make sure you are there for setup; then stick around and try to make a few contacts. Don’t worry if you are inexperienced, there are plenty of members around to help you get those first few contacts.
As this is a family event, we are pleased to tell you the Saturday night dinner is back. This is a potluck dinner, so please bring a favorite dish to share and dinner will be around 5 PM.
This will be a rain or shine event as we will be under the big pavilion. So come on out and get on the air!
We really are extremely fortunate as a club to have such accomplished people who work so hard to make these plans and then work just as hard to bring them to fruition.
