Hello again everyone,
Last month’s opening statement in the President’s Letter had to do with OVH Vice President Gil, KM4OZH’s remarkable performance in September’s VHF contest, Limited Rover Class.
Today, I am happy to report that Gil’s performance can be found on pg. 75 of the December issue of QST magazine.
I am also pleased to announce that Mark, WA4KFZ, is working on scheduling our next VE Session. He has also told me he is planning on retiring this upcoming January after a long career. Well done, sir.
November 11th is Veterans Day. As you probably know, originally it was designated as Armistice Day in remembrance of World War I veterans. It has since evolved in the US to honor ALL veterans of our military services. So, I’d like to take a moment to thank all of our members who have served, and also all who are currently defending, those who have served, and especially the families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Thank You.
It has been a November for the books, weather wise. Some record high temperatures and 38 days in a row without rain. Now that it seems that November is becoming more seasonable, the leaves are either dropping or have already dropped. So, unless you ran your end fed antenna through some evergreens like I did, it would be easier to inspect any tree supported antennas you might have now. After that, you could deal with those leaves.
Our breakfast is this Saturday, November 16th at 8:00 AM. Pioneered by Byron, AK4XR, we get together every Saturday before our meetings at a table or two in the back of Yorkshire Restaurant for some good food and good conversation.
Yorkshire Restaurant

Our next monthly meeting Tuesday, November 19th in the Training Room.
7:30 PM – 9:00 PM EDT
Buckhall VFD Hall
7190 Yates Ford Road
Manassas, VA 20111
Mark, WA4KFZ, will be doing our presentation.
This is the last official meeting of the year. Our December Holiday Party is also our December monthly meeting. So, no official business in December, just good times.
The 78th Greater Manassas Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 7th at 10 AM. We still need some volunteer spotters. OVH will be providing comms support for the parade and the club trailer will be a part of it! Theresa, KG4TVM, has volunteers to help decorate the club trailer and to drive it, as our float is in that parade. If you are available to be a spotter, please contact George, K4GVT, via e-mail george@k4gvt.com
The last event for the Holiday season will be, of course, the OVH’s World Famous Holiday Party, WHICH IS BEING HELD IN A NEW VENUE!
The OVH Holiday Party will be Saturday, December 14th, 6 PM to 8 PM.
The location will be the Heartney home. DO NOT GO TO THE OLD LOCATION.
If you need directions, you can e-mail Theresa @ kg4tvm@hotmail.com or John @ jheartney@gmail.com
For our new members, that means no regular monthly meeting. This is it.
Please bring a covered dish, ham and turkey will be provided by the club. Hopefully John, KG4NXT will make his venison chili for us. Bring your friends and family.
And bring an unwrapped gift (or two) for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots. Theresa, KG4TVM, is in charge as usual. The OVH will receive the toys collected & will make sure they get to the Toys for Tots campaign. If you can’t make the party, please consider making a Toys for Tots donation where you are able. And so, a great time is guaranteed for all!
Also, a reminder to check in to the OVH’s Thursday night VHF/UHF repeater net at 8 PM.
The details for that are on the OVH’s web site: https://w4ovh.net
This is a great way to stay in touch.
Questions, comments or war stories can be directed to my e-mail: KN4DD@arrl.net
