OVH 2017 Christmas / Holiday Party

W4OVH’s annual year end Christmas / Holiday party was held on Sunday, December 10th at the Yorkshire restaurant in Manassas.   The turnout was wonderful, the donations to Toys For Tots was outstanding, and the fellowship amazing! The food – well just WOW on that.  No one there went away hungry. OVH wants to thank its members for their donations to Toys For Tots.  Thanks to the United States Marine Corp for sending two of their best to attend, Sgt. Tucker Renckert and Lance Corporal Sydney Ally, and they did not leave our party hungry! Pinky, OVH’s mascot attended the party too and she has some words of her own!  (see separate  post). Also during the Year End party, Lifetime Achievement Awards were shown to everyone that go to Butch, W4HJL, … Read more >>

OVH Supports Manassas Christmas Parade

Saturday, December 2nd was a grey, cold day in Manassas but the energy was electric. The 72nd annual Greater Manassas Christmas Parade kicked off at 10 am. OVH club members came out to provide radio communications along the parade route. Also the club trailer was entered in the parade as a participant. Terry KC4DV pulled the trailer thru the parade with his truck. BUT before he could do that, we had to decorate! The Saturday prior to the parade Terry, Ray, Sandy, John and myself went to the utility yard to hang the Christmas lights on the trailer. Then the morning of the parade Terry, Rosalie and I finish decorating in the staging area. Pinky road shotgun in the truck during the parade waving the entire time. Seeing all the … Read more >>

W4OVH in the 13 Colonies Special Event

13 Colonies Special Event 1300 UTC on July 1 until 0400 UTC on July 7 OVH was well represented in the 13 Colonies special event.    I probably do not have a complete listing but wanted to recognize those who I know about.  The object of the  13 Colonies special event is to contact designated stations in each of the original 13 colonies.   Each State has it own special 1 by 1 call – Virginia was K2B. I believe the following stations had a “Clean sweep” : Al, KB4BHB,  Byron, AK4XR,  Terry,  KC4DV, and Gil, KM4OZH.   Other club members participating were John , KG4NXT,  David, KK4ZUU,  Kevin , KX4KU, and Wayne N7QLK.   Some of the members were actively sharing spots on the difficult to work stations. Our own David, KK4ZUU, was one … Read more >>

W4OVH Member Wins a Virginia QSO Plaque

Congratulations to David Morris, KK4ZUU David Morris, KK4ZUU ,  was the first OVH member to win a Virginia QSO Plaque. David and his son  won the High Multiple Operator Single Transmitter plaque plaque in VAQP this year and they only operated on Saturday! 2017 Virginia QSO Party Awards Ceremony Apparently it’s the first time anyone from OVH has won a plaque from the VAQP effort per the sponsor’s statistics (2006-2017) here: 2017 Virginia QSO Party Awards Brief OVH did better for log submissions in 2017, 15 logs vs 11 in 2016. David wants to mobile OPS next year with my son (and his license) and we can get more people involved from the club. 73, John Heartney KG4NXT
